Red Dwarf cast to be reunited | Media |... →
Apparently the DVD sales were ultimately enough to get some momentum on something. They tried really hard to get a movie started, but as far as I can tell, that is still dead. Perhaps this is a preamble? Anyways, I’m cautiously hopeful.

Pot Au Feu
In the spirit of “what to do with cabbage” I made some vegetarian pot au feu a couple of nights ago. Unfortunately, no camera to take pictures, but here is the recipe I used. You may need to adjust the recipe for the size of your crock pot:
(1 crock pot)
2 large leeks, white only, halved down the middle
2 small parsnips, sliced
2 small turnips, quartered
1 lb small red potatoes,...
Our First Glimpse of an Alien World | New Planets... →
Achieving a feat that seemed impossible not so long ago, a team of scientists working with the Hubble Space Telescope captured the first visible-light image of a planet orbiting another star (above and inset). On the same day as this announcement, last November 14, came the report of a related breakthrough using the ground-based Gemini and Keck observatories in Hawaii, with which astronomers...

I like Bob Woodward. His book, The Commanders, the behind-the-scenes account of the first Gulf War hooked me.
There’s actually a lot that President-elect Barack Obama can learn from the troubled presidency of George W. Bush. Over the past eight years, I have interviewed President Bush for nearly 11 hours, spent hundreds of hours with his administration’s key players and reviewed...

This sounds and looks pretty interesting. I am curious what they are going to do with the religion storyline.
Franklyn follows four intertwining stories, three of which take place in contemporary London and the fourth takes place in Meanwhile City, a parallel fantasy environment. In Meanwhile City, atheist vigilante Jonathan Preest (Phillippe) fights against the various religious presences....

A Profitless Endeavor: Phishing as Tragedy of the... →
Interesting economics paper out of Microsoft Research which suggests that phishing is a “low-skill low-reward” business. The authors argue, contrary to popular belief and studies by Gartner and others, essentially that because of the limited number of targets (and the limited ability to reuse a target), phishers do not make a lot of money (most eek out some kind of minimum wage) but...
Franken declares Senate race win after state... →
It’s been hard with the trip, but I have been trying to follow this story. I find this process very interesting. I have to admit I am torn—I believe very much in every vote counts and this race really proves it. But I have to ask: how long do you play this out? how many lawsuits, how many recounts, and how many challenges happen until you have to stop? how long do you leave the...

NEW YORK - Anaheim Ducks forward Corey Perry has been suspended for four games without pay for elbowing Philadelphia Flyers forward Claude Giroux during the third period of Friday night’s game, the NHL announced Saturday.
Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Perry will forfeit US$114,516. The money goes to the Players’...
